Great for Hoodoo Practitioners

This formulary & spellbook just keeps on giving. It will not overpower you with the sense that you can't try any Santeria unless you are an initiate, the opposite it inspires you to use the spells in this book. Really it's not a beginners book and you will have to google-translate some of the herbs and depending on where you live some woods/herbs will be unavaliable but adding it to Hoodoo you can search the energy needed in a local wood or plant. It's one of my favourite books.

This is one of the very few books on Santeria in English and the spells and such are described better than my Voodoo Hoodoo book

This is a decent book on exactly what the title says. The spells, candle magick, oils, and incense part of the book is better than many of my Voodoo spell books. I only gave it four stars because the history of Santeria was seriously lacking and many of the ingredients either need translation or are simply unattainable for instance the powdered bone of a Jaguar, monkey and many other animals that you could never get even from the Voodoo suppliers. It is also very hard to find a decent book on Santeria that is in English. This one is in English but many of the ingredients need translating into enlish but I would still buy this book again.

I love this book on the the various Santeria potions, spells and rituals. once you get past some of the outlandish ingredients such as monkey feces, walk by a cemetery at 12:00 PM where two dogs fought huh? powered human skull and powered African frog. *roll eyes* now while Palo is a path of black magik and does contain some diabolical rituals and ingredients we are not in the Congo. true practitioners of these path's, will never reveal their secrets as they are bound by oaths of secrecy. meanwhile these other "various" practitioners have to write diabolical rituals so the masses can feel like they are attempting dastardly deeds, which by the way does exist. but the average person does not need to go through such lengths to obtain the benefits of magik. most magik is designed to improve every day lives, and this is where this comes in, no matter what your path, there is a ritual in here for you, there is excellent info on the various herbs for various Orisha's, formulary to make your own oils for various deities and astral energies, making candles, tinctures, incense, floor washes, bath crystals and oil lamps. its a virtual go to book on how to do ritualistic magik. once you scroll past the monkey paw, rhino's leg and tiger teeth your fine. and excellent formulary and spellbook for those wanting to delve magikal (ATR) afrikan traditional paths.

Great Information

Dr. Klein is inventor of tumescent anesthesia using local lidocaine. After more than 500,000 procedures, his initial work is credited as the origin of AWAKE procedures. Although repetitive in many areas, he clearly explains the science behind his protocols. After 10 years in print, the information is not only valid, it continues to be used as the starting point of the research and practice of tumescent anesthesia. The previous comment was probably written by a plastic surgeon.

Manifest Soulmate Love is the one and only book you will need on your journey to bring true love into your life! This book is like a manual on how to create the life you desire by improving your mental, emotional, and spiritual self-beliefs. The author, Syma Kharal, draws research from spiritual texts, poetry, and psychology, while skillfully blending quotes from Rumi, Mother Theresa, Buddha, and Sigmund Freud, in a symbiotic way to beautifully give introductions to her insightful chapters. Syma opens her heart to the reader, revealing her life experiences and her personal struggles in a way that the reader can feel her sincerity and know that she can relate to our undertaking to find love. She gives the reader hope that the life you want is out there. Her care and love for the reader is evident as she writes with empathy, and gives us the tools we need in our search for soulmate love and assurance that we will bring it to us!
I truly enjoyed this book. There was an ease of reading all the chapters and the book included clear instructions on how to progress through it. Syma takes the reader on a journey of healing in an amazing, liberating, and cathartic way. Her insights/lessons are amazing, divinely inspired, yet realistic and achievable. To help delve into patterns or behaviors from the past, there are “coaching questions” that helps makes the reader stop and think about their true feeling and then face them, head on, as a way to move forward. Manifestation is such a buzzword in the spiritual arena these days. To manifest love is right up there for many of us on our path. Syma’s Manifest your Soulmate, is a wonderfully honest enquiry and understanding of love. Syma engages the reader by sharing her own journey, her past experiences and her overcoming negativity triumphantly through spiritual work and its practical application. Her own understanding translates into this concise book, which presents for the readers a step-by-step guide that can help anyone learn self-love and its importance. For each step, Syma prompts the reader to go within and question each belief one assumes to be true. Her book combines studies in Psychology, rituals for inner connection, and Feng shui with self-learnt practical understanding of self-love. Syma also provides many resources for her readers in each step. I especially like Syma’s loving use of “beloved” in her writing and her sincere desire to help others have faith and become agents of transformation through love. All in all, read it to fall in love with yourself first, feel empowered and witness miracles as they unfold.

What a great book for manifesting soul-mate love!

Wow! What an inspiring and uplifting book. I've read a lot of spiritual and self-help books over the last few years and none of them have really required my participation. What's different about this book is that it actually requires your participation. She asks a number of questions that delve deep into some of the reasons why you may not have manifested your soul-mate love. While I have done a lot of work over the past 3 years on myself, through this book I have realized that I still have some work to do. I was surprised by some of my answers. Last night I did the "free your soul" ritual and I felt so peaceful and free afterwards. I was able to release and forgive those people to whom I felt I needed to forgive. I also spent the day practicing her self-love techniques. This included buying myself some lovely roses, having an epsom salt bath and lighting candles, putting on my favourite rose scented lotion and setting up my "love corner" in my bedroom. I have been meditating for a while but yesterday I actually set up my sacred space. While I am still working on myself I foresee my self ready in the near future to call/invite my true soul-mate. Thank you Syma for all your wonderful healing work! This book is AMAZING! I highly recommend this book :)

Beautiful paintings and informative techniques.

Book Review- Experimental Landscapes in Watercolour by Anne Blockley

This book contains the artist’s interpretation of landscapes into watercolor paintings. She used techniques included water based paint and acrylic inks. Her paintings are based a lot on the English Cotswolds which is an area of woodlands, fields, hills and hedges.
She includes how to explanations with pictures of the effects. She does a great job with these explanations and the descriptions of each painting that she includes. She provides details for the techniques she uses also. The techniques she uses to obtain different looks are numerous. In one painting she uses fern leaves. For other paintings she used different types of salt to add a speckling effect. In others she explained how to use plastic wrap for a unique effect in the texture and for depth. It was a fascinating book and it was full of beautiful paintings.
I favor landscape paintings. I loved her painting titled “Autumn Magic”. The colors she used were a beautiful combination. I also liked the painting “In your Dreams” which was a great example of the combined elements she used. However my favorite paintings were the ones of the ocean.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes to look at beautiful pictures and wants to know how to paint them. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Excellent, and innovative

The author introduces her techniques very clearly, and through a series of extraordinary and very skillful paintings illustrates their application. This has changed my painting, I now regard watercolor paintings without textures as missing an essential component. I have adopted use of texture and white paint along the lines she recommends, and feel my resources much enriched. A remarkable book. The printing is excellent, as needed to show the fine detail and richness of color her techniques deliver. This book makes a substantial contribution to watercolor technique.

Lovely paintings, but instruction could be better.

Love Ann Blockley's style. The book has wonderful pianists and she talks about her techniques in general, but no step by step instruction which I would have liked. It's hard to paint as loosely as she does, so it would be better if she'd taken a couple of pieces and shown the stages rather than just finished pieces. I don't know where to start!

Well well well, looks like I just became a foraging, brewmaster, beer god. All thanks to Scratch Brewery for their amazeballs book they released. Thank the heavens for this, the father of the holy trinity of brew books that are necessary for all serious homebrewers.

Really cool book and very well put together. I personally with probably not be foraging for ingredients anytime soon but for brainstorming new ideas this book is top notch. It does have enough detail if foraging is your thing however.

The best cookie book

My wife, who is a fabulous cook and baker, returns again and again to this book when it is time for cookies. When it was lost in our kitchen remodel, she was almost inconsolable; when she found it in the garage she came skipping back to the house and started baking immediately. I can't imagine a better recommendation.

Very good book!

As a Pre-Vet student I use this book quite a bit for my Livestock Entomology class. The pictures are pretty awsome! I really think this is a good investment if your an entomology fan or in a class. I also like that the insect orders are broken into different chapters. I currently finished a lab on dog heartworm and this book has a chapter on mosquitoes which was very helpful to me! Overall a very good buy!

Excellent textbook!

This textbook is very easy to read and understand. It is laid out in manner that makes sense and is easy to follow along with. The images go well with the text. My one caution, however, is that you don't try to use solely this book for insect morphology. It discusses mouthparts and other details related to disease/parasite infection and transmission, and it does not explain the morphological differences between insect species within the same family or order. I would recommend this text to any veterinary or medical student!

I truly appreciated this book as an architect

This book is helpful on many levels and lets you get a great in depth look at residential architecture. Clears up a lot of the mystery and sets you straight on just how "easy" designing houses really is. Helpful insight into everything from contracts with client, to meeting with clients, billing, drawings, contractors, and close out. Great examples at end of chapters to bring it all together. Also, wonderful section on clients to avoid.

Olav Velthuis has worked as Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Konstanz and has been a Visiting Scholar at Princeton University and Columbia University. Currently he writes about economic affairs for the Dutch newspaper "De Volkskrant".

Explaining art world behavior with economic models.

Velthius does a nice job taking the often curious behavior of art world players and explaining them with standard economic models. Why do dealers price primary market paintings at half their auction value? Why does a culture of favoritism and gift giving trump a transparent market model? How do dealers think about pricing the work of an artist for their first gallery show? Through a serious of interviews, data analyses, and observations, Velthius tackles these questions and many more.

The author pays particular attention to the competing worlds of aesthetics and commerce that must uncomfortably coexist in the art world. On the one hand, art world players insist that economic considerations are crass where beauty and scholarship should reign supreme. But at the end of the day, dealers are businesspeople who need to pay rent, support their artists, please collectors, and support themselves.

If you're hoping to use this book to price art or predict future prices, you'll probably be very disappointed. The book makes some very rudimentary empirical observations that should be obvious to anyone even casually involved in the art world (larger paintings are more expensive than smaller paintings for a given artist), but the author concedes that pricing is too idiosyncratic to hope to build anything approaching a robust pricing model.

While this book waxes academic, it should be pretty readable to anyone with a rudimentary background in economics. The art world jargon is kept to relative minimum. If you're looking for a breezy, entertaining read, I'd strongly consider The $12 Million Stuffed Shark: The Curious Economics of Contemporary Art.
